Norman Jay - London Bus
Norman Jay is synonymous with the Notting Hill Carnival and DJing from an open top red London Bus.
Our Brief at Aris Design was to create a system that mimicked the iconic open top london bus, that could be used inside venues and allows Norman to DJ from the stage, where it is not possible to use the Real open top bus. This project was for our good friends at Dynamite XP.
Our solution was to use a flexible modular display system which we have covered with fabric graphics to achieve a seamless look and feel. The bus is 3/4 size of the orignal London bus, as you will see from the visuals it looked exactly as proposed. Our design team created a fantastic solution which is also portable enough to fit in the back of an estate car for easy transportation from venue to venue.
The first use of the bus was at the Corporate Christmas parties at RichMix in Bethnal Green during December and the main event was for NYE at Battersea Arts Centre which can be see in this video.
The Bus is now in use at Mayrhofen in Austria where Norman is DJing for the Motorola DEFY festival.
There is a possibility the bus will be seen at the Queens Jubilee event
"So after more than 3 decades of deejaying at the Notting Hill carnival (20 of those at our current location on the corner of West Row and Southern Row) entertaining generations of our fans, the realisation that we cannot be there on August 28th and 29th has been a particularly devastating one for us all to come to terms with. Saying that, on a more positive note, we feel that a one year sabbatical away from carnival and all that it entails will prove to be of real benefit to all concerned in the long run, giving us all a bit of time and space to evaluate what it really means to be part of the greatest street festival in Europe. A precedent has already been set with regard to established UK festivals taking a gap year with even the ‘mother’ of all UK festivals, GLASTONBURY officially announcing a one year break in 2012.
